M (1931)
After watching "M" by Fritz Lang, which is by the way a very good movie, I think it count to the genre melodrama.
It deals with a very emotional theme - a child murderer. At the end of the film, there is a very emotional scene, where the criminals adjudicate upon the child murderer "Beckert". This sequence appeals to the crisis of human emotions and reveals the dispute between vigilantism and justice.
Some people consider "M" as a horror, but in my opinion the movie is not targeting the primal fears of the audience and it does not contain any supernatural elements, which are very typical for horror films. But the most crucial point is, that the film "M" disregards the important role of music, which is essential for horror movies.

This is a very smart and to the point response. I like it.
